Reeling in new champions for Northeast Florida’s third annual Oh Snap! Fishing’s Red Snapper Fishing Tournament
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, FL. –– July 17, 2023 –– The third annual Oh Snap! Fishing Red Snapper Fishing Tournament wrapped up Saturday night with an awards ceremony at Mavi Waterfront Bar and Grill. Winning anglers celebrated their victories with friends and family at the local hot spot with a band, charity raffle and amazing prizes. Since its conception in 2021, Oh Snap!’s goal has been to bring the community of local anglers and outdoorsmen and women together while fundraising for beloved local charities like the First Coast’s very own K9s For Warriors.
Each year as NOAA Fisheries announces the dates for the recreational Atlantic red snapper season, participants from all across Northeast Florida rush to join friends and family on the water to reel in the biggest Red Snapper of the season. With a growing cult following, Oh Snap! has quickly become the go-to local charity event, supported by the generosity of local businesses, with 2023’s proceeds benefitting the veterans and dogs in the renowned K9s For Warriors program. k9sforwarriors.com
This year’s tournament brought new winners in all three divisions for main, lady, and junior anglers, all crowned during the award ceremony on Saturday, July 15th. Main tournament co-champions, Louis and Matt Joseph from Outta Line Fishing, took home the top prize of $5,000, a large trophy and bragging rights for the year, with a snapper weighing in at 21.64 pounds! Louis’s son, Louie took home 1st in the Jr. Angler division.

“We had a great turnout for our third annual tournament,” said Dave Berg, Oh Snap! Fishing Tournament Director. “It’s always a great time to see friends and family enjoying our local waters together with some friendly competition thrown in. We are thankful for all the anglers who participated and helped us make a difference in our community. We are already looking forward to next year’s competition –– we hope to see you there.”
The 4th annual tournament will be scheduled for 2 days next year on both Friday & Saturday in July 2024 (official dates to be announced by NOAA Fisheries next summer); registration will open in February 2024.
